Transfer Scenarios

All students in this program will “transfer” to UW-Platteville at some point. While a student does not physically move to the UWP campus, (s)he does seek admission from the university in order to take its courses offered here.

Described below are the 4 typical scenarios under which a student starts in our program:

  1. You’ve Taken No College Courses
  2. Apply to UW-Rock and work with the Collaborative Program Director to select courses that balance your needs to start engineering and meet general education requirements. When you have met certain course requirements (pre-requisites), you’d be eligible to start UWP coursework here.

  3. You Took Vocational or General Education Courses at a Technical College
  4. A maximum of 30 credits will transfer from a technical college, and these are usually general education courses. Credits from vocational courses at a technical college are rarely transferable into UW-Platteville's engineering programs. Engineering courses must contain a significant design component, which is typically not included in a technical/vocational course. Second, engineering courses are all calculus-based, which means calculus is a prerequisite requirement in order to enroll. All university-level engineering courses use a working knowledge of calculus and/or the analytical skills necessary to complete calculus. These requirements help reinforce the accreditation of engineering programs.

If you currently attend a technical college and wish to take courses there that have a better chance of meeting requirements here, work with our Collaborative Program Director to select courses that meet your needs. According to the UW-System’s Transfer Information System website, Social Science, Math & Natural Science courses have the best chance for transfer from technical colleges. When you are ready to transfer, a pply to UW-Rock.

  5. You Took General Education or Pre-Engineering Courses at a Liberal Arts School (no degree)
  6. Work with the Collaborative Program Director to select courses that balance your needs to start engineering and meet general education requirements. When you have met certain course requirements (pre-requisites), you’d be eligible to start UWP coursework here. Apply to UW-Rock only after talking with the Collaborative Program Director (to discuss financial aid and/or 90-credit limits).

If you currently attend another school and wish to take courses there that have a better chance of meeting requirements here, work with the Collaborative Program Director to select courses that meet your needs. You may find example engineering and/or general education courses on the UW-System Transfer Information System. When you are ready to transfer, work with the Collaborative Program Director to determine a course schedule before applying to either UW-Rock or UWP.

  7. You Earned an Associate or Bachelor Degree From An Accredited College/University

Congratulations! This status means you have also met UWP general education requirements. As such, you would apply to UW-Rock only to complete pre-engineering course requirements. W ork with the Collaborative Program Director to select courses that balance your needs and develop a plan to start UWP coursework here.

Once accepted to UW-Rock County, under any of the above scenarios, you can investigate waiver and/or test-out opportunities.
