Admissions
There are several ways to apply for acceptance into our program. Generally, it is best to first schedule a meeting with the Collaborative Program Director to tour the Engineering Center, develop a plan and discuss:
- Previous college courses – how they might count toward requirements in our program
- Scheduling flexibility – part or fill-time? Daytime or evenings?
- Personal and professional needs
- Financial considerations
The university’s Registration office will officially review your transcripts when you apply as a degree-seeking student, but we recommend that you do it with us first (an unofficial audit) to better determine if this program is right for you and how long it may take you to complete our Bachelor’s degree.
Admission's Process:
- Apply to UW-Rock County – follow on-screen directions to seek admission to UW-Rock
- based on the answers you provide in the pre-application survey, you may be either a “degree-seeking” or a “special” student
- select “(Electrical or Mechanical) Engineering Program with UW-Platteville” as your Major - we will not track your progress or know you have applied unless you choose this from the “UW-Rock County Undergraduate Programs” page
- Acceptance
- the Admissions office will communicate with you separate from our engineering program; they will inform you of orientation, testing, and other “new student” issues
- placement tests (in English and Mathematics) may be needed for students who have never attended college – or transfer, special and re-entry students who have not successfully completed a previous university level English or Math course
- notify the Collaborative Program Director when you are admitted to discuss course enrollment options
If you do not already have a Bachelor degree or an Associate degree ( not from a Wisconsin technical college), you need to earn the Associate of Arts and Science degree from UW-Rock County. Work in coordination with UW-Rock’s Student Services office to ensure that your course choices balance engineering prerequisites with Associate degree requirements. You do not need to complete the Associate degree before starting your engineering major. In fact, you are encouraged to balance your course choices – so to see if engineering is right for you and to ensure a steady progress.
As a collaborative program, you are a student at both UW-Rock and UW-Platteville when completing your Bachelor of Science degree. In fact, you’re a student at 2 schools at the same time during most semesters. This is because UW-Rock offers the general education and pre-engineering courses, while UW-Platteville offers the Electrical and Mechanical major courses. With proper guidance, Financial Aid can be used to cover expenses at both schools, too.
- Apply to UW-Platteville – if you are ready to start UWP courses on the Janesville campus, follow the on-screen directions to seek admission to UWP
- select “(Electrical or Mechanical) Engineering Major at UW-Rock County” as your Major - we will not track your progress or know you have applied unless you choose this from the “UW-Platteville Undergraduate Programs” page
- use this application only if applying by July 15 for Fall Semester and by December 1 for Spring Semester enrollment; if you’ve missed these deadlines, see #5 below
- Acceptance
- the Admissions office will communicate with you separate from our engineering program; they will inform you of orientation and other “new student” issues
- notify the Collaborative Program Director when you are admitted to discuss course enrollment options, if you haven’t done so already
- you’ll receive information on Advising PIN, registration guide, username/password, email
- Special UWP Enrollment – If you have missed the Fall and Spring Semester deadlines for an application, then seek “Special Student” status to UWP
- this form will admit you and enroll you in previously agreed-upon UWP courses for one semester
- you do not pay an application fee or need to submit any transcripts with this option
- return the application to the Collaborative Program Director
- you’ll receive information on using PeopleSoft for future registration, email, username/password
